Abstract
Forty three patients with histologically confirmed brain tumor in which electroencephalography, brain scan, and cerebral angiography were done during 5 years from Mar. 1971 to Feb. 1976 at Neurology Section of Department of Internal Medicine, Yonsei University College of Medicine were studied and the following results were obtained.
1. Out of the total 43 cases 26(6c 4%) were abnormal, 11(25.7%) were borderline and 6(13. 9%) were normal by EEG.
2. Spinal tap was done in 16 cases, Out of 7 cases in which cerebrospinal fluid pressure was below 200mmH2O 4 were normal, but all cases in which cerebrospinal fluid pressure was above 200mmH2O were abnormal or borderline in E.E.G.
3. In regard of site of tumor, out of 19 cases in left hemisphere abnormal E.E.G. was detected at the left side in 13(68.4%) cases, 4(21.0%) bilaterally and. 2(10.6%) at the right side. Out of 12 .cases in right "hemisphere 11 were detected in the right side and only I was detected bilaterally in E.E.G.
4. Comparing E.E.G. ebrain scan. and cerebral angiography for localization rate of brain tumor, in supratentorial (frontal and temporal lobe) tumor the localization rate of E.E.G. was similar to cerebral angiography and superior to brain scan, but in midline and infratentorial tumor E.E.G. was inferior to cerebral angiography and brain scan. In regard of histological classification of brain tumor, the detection rate of E.E.G. was similar to cerebral angiography and superior to brain scan in astrocytoma, glioblastoma and meningioma.
